‘Green’ Filters
What makes a filter ‘green’ is determined by factors including the production materials used, energy consumption throughout service life, the level indoor air quality achieved and the environmental impact caused by disposal. It can be said that by increasing the level of filtration efficiency for a space, the relative indoor air quality will improve. The health benefits of this are obvious for the occupants of the space, not to mention economic benefits achieved in the instance of reduced absenteeism in workplaces. Filters that provide lower resistance to air flow reduce energy consumption. Energy consumption typically constitutes around 80% of the total costs to run a filtration system. Lower energy consumption reduces greenhouse gas emissions.
A number of the products across our range meet the requirements set out in environmental rating programs such as The WELL Building Standard and LEED. Glasfloss’ range of mini pleat filters provide high efficiency filtration and market leading low pressure drops. IFS can provide advice and strategies to improve the environmental and economic performance of an air filtration system.
Buy Australian
IFS is a family owned and run Australian small business, in operation since 1976. The profits we make remain in this country.
We proudly manufacture a wide range of air filters at our factory in Heidelberg West, Victoria. We use quality Australian materials to make our products. The company has resisted local industry trends to import low cost, generic Asian manufactured ‘finished product’ filters or component parts for assembly here, focussing rather on offering a point of difference to the market – quality, reliable Australian made air filters and accessories.
Glasfloss Industries – Made in the USA
The advent of new technologies, materials and manufacturing techniques has seen the arrival of many new products to the market over the last couple of decades. These products, designed largely in the United States and Europe, exhibit higher efficiency, lower resistance and longer service life. While the Australian market has traditionally been proficient at producing older style coarse and medium efficiency type filters, newer high efficiency ‘fine’ filters such as the extended surface pocket filter or mini pleat filter are not made in this country, rather imported from international manufacturers.
Our range of cardboard pleated, extended surface pocket, mini pleat and HEPA filters are quality American made Glasfloss Industries brand. IFS is the official and exclusive Australian distributor for Glasfloss Industries. Glasfloss are a family business originally established in 1936 in New York City and now expanded to comprise 5 manufacturing plants across the United States. They are a dependable, innovative manufacturer of quality air filtration products with an excellent reputation in American and international markets.
Our approach of supplying a quality American made product provides us with a real point of difference to the local market which has become increasingly dominated by low cost, generic products sourced from Asia.
National Air Filtration Association (NAFA)
IFS is a proud Active Member of NAFA, the source for expertise, education and standards in air filtration. NAFA is a dynamic, non-profit trade association. NAFA members include air filter and component manufacturers, sales and service companies, and HVAC and indoor air quality professionals across the United States and internationally.
Several IFS staff have travelled to the United States to study and gain accreditation as Certified Air Filter Specialists (CAFS) and NAFA Certified Technicians (NCT). The NAFA CAFS program distinguishes those professionals who have demonstrated a thorough, up-to-date understanding of air filtration technology and high level of professionalism. NCT’s possesses a thorough understanding of the installation, operation and maintenance of air filtration systems.
We make regular return trips to the United States to attend NAFA Technical Seminars which provide delegates with the latest in HVAC air filtration information, application, new products and emerging technologies.
IFS conducts its business in accordance with the guidelines set out in the NAFA Code of Ethics.
IFS LCC Program
Our Life Cycle Costing (LCC) program calculates the total owning and operating costs to run a filtration system, incorporating items such as initial purchase, freight, labour, maintenance, replacement, energy and disposal costs. It is a valuable tool that can be used to model different filtration strategies in order to find a best fit, compare different products or provide important budgetary information. Typically it is found that energy costs represent around 80% of total owning and operating costs – the IFS LCC program can help minimise operating and also owning costs by optimising the performance of an air filtration system. Our LCC program is based upon information contained in the NAFA Guide to Air Filtration, Fifth Edition, 2014.
We can also provide advice on the optimum static pressure point at which to change-out an air filter, that point where energy costs become greater that the savings achieved in extending filter life.
